Johnny's Choice

When I heard the news last Friday of Johnny McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his choice for Vice-President, my reaction was similar to most Americans. WHO?!? I was having lunch with a colleague on Friday and was trying to watch the announcement from across the restaurant. At first all I could make out was the name Palin, and I began to sing “The Lumberjack Song” in my head. (That reference probably just went over most of your heads. Look it up if you need explanation.) Now most people know that I have been a student of politics from a very young age. I tend to stay on top of both national and local issues and can usually identify the political leaders of most states. But you’ve got to hand it to good old Johnny McCain. He really surprised us didn’t he?

Throughout Johnny McCain’s campaign he has stressed his leadership experience in order to bring about real “change” in Washington. Remember that this is a 72 year old man, a cancer survivor, and was held captive for years in a brutal North Vietnamese prison. You would think that he would select as his running mate someone who could easily step in and assume the duties of the presidency if something should happen. Also remember that we are still at “war”, and if it is up to Johnny McCain that “war” will continue indefinitely. Does he really think that Sarah Palin has the experience and leadership abilities to be the commander-in-chief during a “war”? I certainly do not!

It is just laughable that Johnny McCain’s campaign has pointed out the fact that Sarah Palin, as governor, has lead the Alaska National Guard; therefore she has the experience to be commander-in-chief of our armed forces. And just the other day Johnny’s trophy wife Cindy contributed to the discussion about Palin’s foreign policy experience with this statement. “Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia. It’s not as if she doesn’t understand what’s at stake here.” Wow! But wait, she has executive experience too. After all she’s been governor since way back in December 2006 and before that as mayor of the Alaskan metropolis of Wasilla. And don’t forget the one year she chaired the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Why not just select Holling Vincoeur as your running mate Johnny?

I really enjoyed seeing the remnants of the moral majority leap with joy upon her selection over the weekend. Focus On The Family’s Dr. James Dobson has been saying for months that he would never support nor vote for Johnny McCain. Now suddenly this woman, who happens to be a Christian, joins the ticket and he is now on board. I wonder if they are still overjoyed after the news about the governor’s daughter broke? (I’d really like to know Dr. Dobson’s reaction when he heard that news nugget.) My advice to Dr. Dobson and others like him is simple. Stick to focusing on families and stop focusing on Washington! The government will never tell me how to pray and the church will never tell me how to vote!

If a man with her background and credentials were selected as the vice-presidential nominee, ask yourself how would people react? Would they be falling all over themselves like they are with Miss Alaska? Does anyone remember Dan Qualye (or is that Qualy)? She is on the ticket only because she wears a skirt. Johnny McCain’s pandering to women is a desperate attempt by a desperate man to do whatever it takes to win this election. Shame on you Johnny!

John McCain...The Wrong Choice!

Last night the Republican Party took the first steps toward turning control over to the liberal/moderate-wing of the party. John McCain is not a conservative; he is what we call a RINO (Republican In Name Only). He is a crass opportunist who will say and do anything to get elected. His nomination will ensure that either Clinton or Obama will be moving into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue next January.

McCain has often repeated throughout the campaign that he is the only candidate who will stand up to the special interest groups. Does anyone remember the Keating Five scandal? Mr. McCain was one of five senators who, after investigations by the state of California, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Senate Ethics Committee, was found to have acted improperly at the behest of Charles Keating. Charles Keating was the chairman of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association of Irvine, California. Mr. Keating had given a total of 1.3 million dollars in campaign contributions to John McCain and four other United States Senators, in exchange for influence in easing of the federal investigation into the Lincoln S & L collapse. John McCain’s wife and father-in-law just happened to be the largest investors in a shopping mall owned by Charles Keating at the time. Does it sound like John McCain will stand up to the same special interest groups that he took money from in the past?

John McCain also has repeated that he will do everything to ensure that President Bush’s middle class tax cuts will become permanent. However, John McCain voted against those same tax cuts twice while serving in the Senate. Which John McCain are we to believe?

In former Senator Tom Daschle’s book “Like No Other Time”, he stated that he had meetings with John McCain between April and May of 2001. What was the subject of those meetings? The possibility of John McCain switching parties and becoming a Democrat. Don’t believe me? Just ask McCain’s chief political strategist John Weaver, who first approached Daschle about the switch. So it really isn’t too surprising that John Kerry was considering naming John McCain as his VP in 2004.

So here we are in 2008 and John McCain is calling himself a true conservative, the likes of which the Republican Party has not seen since Ronald Reagan. I ask everyone not to fall for his lies anymore. John McCain never has been, nor will ever be a conservative. If he is named the nominee of the Republican Party, I would encourage all conservatives to vote third party. John McCain does not deserve our vote.

Why I’m For Romney

With only 27 days until Iowans caucus it is time for Americans, especially Republicans, to get off the fence and support a candidate for President. Daily we are being subjected to poll after poll from some group whom most political analysts would agree they have never heard of before. Insider Advantage-R, Strategic Vision, Survey USA, Research 2000; enough already! Is there any voter in this country that is truly undecided? Between cable news and the internet we have been saturated with information, some substantial and some inane, about each and every candidate running. The excuse likely voters use to explain their undecided position is about as convincing as “the dog ate my homework”.
I made up my mind some time ago. I am supporting Mitt Romney as our next President of the United States. Throughout the many televised debates, the talking-heads on cable news, and C-SPAN, I am convinced that Mitt Romney is our best choice for leading our country forward. His experience in the business world alone makes him the best qualified candidate in the field. Add to that his role as President & CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee after the previous head left it in disarray and facing a financial crisis, which he turned around where it became one of the most successful in our country’s history.
When he was elected as governor of Massachusetts in 2002, he was able to balance the budget every year of his term without having to resort to raising taxes or increasing the debt, after he inherited a $3 billion deficit. He was able to reform the education system in order for Massachusetts students to have the tools necessary to compete for jobs in a global marketplace. This was done in a state dominated by a liberal legislature.
He understands the threat that Islamic jihadists pose to this country and the world. He publicly supports the Federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He opposes the use and farming of embryonic stem-cells , expansion of access to contraceptives by children, and civil unions for homosexuals. He does not support the amnesty bill put forth by President Bush and other traitorous politicians in Washington.
Many of the other candidates in the running for the Republican nomination have called into question Governor Romney’s conservative credentials. I believe that his record in business and public life speaks for itself. Ronald Reagan is the benchmark for any conservative candidate running for high office. What Republican voters need to understand is this…….there can only be one Ronald Reagan. Governor Mitt Romney is not Ronald Reagan, but he sure comes close.

What Was Pat Robertson Thinking?

Last month founder and former head of the Christian Coalition, Pat Robertson, shocked many evangelical Christians by personally endorsing former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani for President. After many months of courting by the other Republican hopefuls, Robertson settled on Giuliani. Even though he made the endorsement as a private citizen, it still created waves among evangelical Christians. "I thought it was important for me to make it clear that Rudy Giuliani is more than acceptable to people of faith," said Robertson. "Given the fractured nature of the process, I thought it was time to solidify around one candidate."
Last night at the CNN/YouTube Republican Presidential debate, Giuliani left no doubt to most voters just how out of touch Pat Robertson is with evangelical Christians. In response to a question that asked if the candidates believed if every word in the Bible were true, Giuliani replied in a way that showed his true colors. “The reality is, I believe it, but I don't believe it's necessarily literally true in every single respect. I think there are parts of the Bible that are interpretive. I think there are parts of the Bible that are allegorical. I think there are parts of the Bible that are meant to be interpreted in a modern context. But I don't believe every single thing in the literal sense of Jonah being in the belly of the whale, or, you know, there are some things in it that I think were put there as allegorical.”
When asked if Roe vs. Wade were ever overturned, and Congress passed a bill banning all abortions, would he sign it into law? Giuliani replied, “I probably would not sign it.”
So tell me Mr. Robertson, what parts of these answers are acceptable to you as a person of faith? This evangelical Christian will not support, endorse, or vote for Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani is totally unacceptable to be the nominee of my party for President of the United States. When asked by reporters why he was no longer a Democrat and now a Republican, Ronald Reagan answered by saying "I didn't leave the Democratic Party. The party left me.” Come this spring, I may understand firsthand how Ronald Reagan felt.

Disunited States?

The Disunited States of America? Have we as a country come to that point already? Or is this a description of things yet to come? I for one believe we have passed that point seven years ago, if not earlier. Now do I feel that we are destined to fall apart as a nation, or is their yet some amount of hope in our future? Honestly, I really cannot say.
Those on the left, as well as the right, love to throw around the word democracy. Democracy is loosely defined as “majority rule”; however those of us who are awake and aware of the current political state of the nation know the truth. Here in the Disunited States democracy means “minority rule”. If anyone would bother to pick up a copy of the U.S. Constitution they would know that we are actually a republic not a democracy. (To any liberal who may have accidently stumbled upon this blog and have even made it this far, I highly suggest you obtain of copy of the Constitution and read it!) Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines republic as: “a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law.”
As the 2008 election nears, politicians from all stripes will say anything it takes to get your vote. To be honest, most if not all of what they say is as indecipherable as that of a babbling newborn. If you listen beyond the sound-bites that appear on the news and read between the lines, you may get some idea of what they really think. In my opinion they don’t think much of you or I. We are just pawns in their game in which they let us believe that we hold true power via the ballot box. The choice is simple, wake up or stay asleep. Unless we stop the madness that is “minority rule”, then our nation as we know it will cease to exist.
